Community Garden Project – Oldbury
West Midlands Wellbeing Centre

A practical, welcoming outdoor space in Oldbury where veterans, families and the community can connect, build and grow together.
The Community Garden Project at our West Midlands Wellbeing Centre in Oldbury is a welcoming outdoor space where veterans, families and the wider community can come together, enjoy the fresh air and be part of something positive.
This is a practical, hands-on space built by the community. With raised planting beds, a seating and pergola area, and a converted container workshop, the garden offers somewhere people can connect, learn new skills and take time away from the pressures of everyday life.
Whether someone wants to get involved, try something new, or simply sit and enjoy the space — everyone is welcome.

About the Garden

The Community Garden has been created and continues to grow through the efforts of veterans, volunteers and local people.
It is a space that reflects the people who use it — practical, welcoming and always developing.
The garden has been designed to be:
- accessible and inclusive
- hands-on and practical
- family-friendly
- a place for both activity and quiet time
From building structures to planting
The Garden Hub – Workshop & Office Space

At the centre of the project is a converted shipping container, which has been transformed into a workshop and office space.
Powered by solar panels and fully adapted for use, it provides a base for the project and supports activities all year round.
The container is used for:
- practical workshop activities
- small group sessions
- planning and coordination
- storing tools and equipment

This space allows the garden to be more than just somewhere to grow plants — it supports learning, development and shared purpose.

What You Can Expect
The garden offers a range of opportunities, but there is no pressure to take part in everything.
People can choose to:
🌿 Plant and grow in raised beds
🪵 Help build and develop the space
🌼 Maintain flowers and shared areas
🪑 Relax in the seating and pergola area
🍔 Join informal outdoor get-togethers
☕ Enjoy a cuppa and conversation
Some people prefer to get stuck in with practical tasks, while others take things at their own pace. Both are equally valued.
