At STEPWAY, we offer a wide range of free workshops and short courses to help people gain confidence, improve wellbeing, and build new skills.

These are open to veterans, family members, and volunteers, and are always free of charge.


7 Step Civilian Skills Program


A Pathway to Purpose
Our award-winning 7 Step Civilian Skills Program is for veterans and family members. This six-day course covers:
Confidence and identity
Mental health and emotional wellbeing
Housing and financial guidance
Education and Employment support
Goal-setting and life planning

Wellbeing Wednesdays at the LINK Community Hub


Free Weekly Creative and Therapeutic Sessions
Every Wednesday, we run drop-in sessions that include:
Craft Club – needlework, clay modelling, and seasonal makes
Art Group – painting, sketching, and creative expression
Horticultural Therapy – grow your own veg, no-dig style!
Group Discussions – relaxed chat and shared support
🕙 Time: 10:00am – 4:00pm
📍 Location: LINK Community Hub, Powick
🍵 Free refreshments included
Open to veterans, family members, and those referred through social prescribing.

Free Monthly Drop-Ins for Veterans
Our Banter & Brew sessions are informal, friendly, and open to all veterans. Come along for:

Mental Health and Substance Misuse Course


Supporting Recovery Through Understanding and Purpose
This course is for veterans and family members who may be affected by mental health challenges, substance misuse, or both. It offers a safe space to explore personal experiences, build resilience, and begin the journey of recovery.
What the Course Covers:
The link between trauma, mental health, and addiction
Coping strategies, grounding techniques, and self-care
Understanding PTSD and emotional triggers
Breaking harmful cycles and building healthy routines
Tools for reconnecting with self-worth and purpose
Support for those affected by a loved one’s struggles
Guidance on accessing further help through warm referrals

Prison In-Reach Course


Helping Veterans Rebuild – From Custody to Community
This course is delivered as part of STEPWAY’s Prison In-Reach Programme, supporting veterans preparing for release. It focuses on building confidence, developing life skills, and planning a positive future after prison.
What the Course Covers:
Reconnecting with identity and values after service
Mental health awareness and emotional wellbeing
Practical support with housing, benefits, and finances
Goal setting and planning for civilian life
An introduction to the full 7 Step Civilian Skills Program
Understanding addiction, trauma, and positive coping
Access to peer support and community opportunities
Veterans also receive warm referrals to trusted partners including Op NOVA, The Poppy Factory, and DWP Armed Forces Champions. This course creates a clear pathway to recovery, purpose, and ongoing support beyond the gate.
